EXCURSIONS TO MOUNT ETNA

‘A Muntagna’, as known by the locals, with a height of 3,350m and a surface of 1250 km2, is the biggest active volcano in Europe and certainly the dominating feature of Sicily’s eastern coast. The ever-present Mount Etna has, to a large extent, shaped both the history and the actual existence of those who live in its shadow. Its lava flows and dust clouds can be devastating, but they also enrich the soil, making the lower slopes and the surrounding plains some of the most fertile areas in Sicily; here we find vast expanses of vines, citrus plantation, pine and chestnut woods. Visiting Mount Etna is a marvelous experience. There are facilities to reach the craters with jeeps and cable cars however, a trip to the volcano can be enriched by a tour with a qualified guide. Traveling on jeeps and with some hiking, an expert will guide you to the grotto of snow, craters and canyons craven out by the lava, moon-like landscapes, woods and eruptions. Etna is a very high mountain and should be respected as such. The weather can change quickly, and it can get very cold even in the height of summer therefore warm clothes and walking shoes are recommended.

HELI TOUR OF THE VOLCANO

Etna can also be experienced by quads and bicycles however, the most spectacular way to enjoy the natural wonders of it to the fullest must be by helicopter; its ever-changing, breathtaking vistas and bird's eye view of the craters makes it an unforgettable experience.
